Rio Marina is the second port of Elba, connecting the island withPiombino in just 40 minutes by ferry. This part of Elba is very characteristic as dominated by the color reddish tinge that ferrous authorising the mountains and the erosion of open-cast mines.
To visit the town, the oratory of St. Rocco and the octagonal tower on the port (1500). The municipality of Rio Marina spread on the water on the east coast of the island, opposite the Gulf of Follonica.
Thanks to the rich mineral resources of this area, the territory was colonised since the periodEtruscan . Indeed the economy of the village was focused almost exclusively about and export of iron. Other economic resources of the municipality was obviously fishing.
Today with the crisis of mining, the economy is focused on services relating to tourism, facilitated by two excellent port of the capital and Cavo .
