Marciana is situated on the slopes of Mount Capanne, 350 meters above sea level. From these parts is still possible to admire what remains of terraces cultivated with vines, abbarbicati on slopes and treated with sacredness by older generations of marcianesi.

The area was inhabited since Roman, but its origin is in low-medieval age as autonomous communities including Marciana of Poggio (Today Marciana) and Marciana Marina.
